Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 29/09/2010 04:12:08 It's great, but i still wish they'd include Canada. It makes as much sense as having the US in 4000BC, another British colony. Canada was involved in wars around the globe before the US was, so there's no good reason to omit them. I used to just play as the Celts in Civ 4, because that's my actual race, but they're mysteriously missing in this one. Leaves me not really caring too much about whatever i'm playing as, which might be better, really. It's the first one i'll play all of them in.
Also don't think liberty existed at the dawn of civilization, and it's a pretty vague concept to begin with. But aside from all that it's the best one so far. The things they dumbed down needed it, and removing stacks adds a great deal more to strategy than just piling up a bunch of things and sending them out.
Oh, i kind of miss religions too, but that's no biggie.

Originally by: Reiisha The way too aggressive AI is probably the biggest reason.
I personally find the AI to be the most relaxed yet. Mainly just have to remember to put your own troops along the border when you see theirs massing on the other side, and that's usually enough to keep them from declaring war. When you can, just upgrade the units to something better than what they have and they'll scurry off.
As for the beginning of the game, that's a big land grab anyway. You're going to lose if you just have 2 or 3 cities and aren't trying to attack or expand, which are both much easier to do, so anyone who takes you out is just doing the inevitable and saving you time.

Originally by: CCP Soundwave I'm still really enjoying the game, but my biggest gripe right now is that the interaction with other nations/city states is so primitive. I wish there was a way to build and nurture alliances instead of "click city state", "give money".
I get city states asking me to do everything from build specific wonders to take out people they don't like, but you can bypass all that by just handing over gold.
For other civs you can set up conspiracies against one through secret alliances and a bunch of other things. Although without religions or any kind of espionage any other interaction does feel lacking.

Seems to be a problem with the DX10-11 version. The DX9 one works fine. If you absolutely must play with DX10-11 just make autosaves happen more frequently in the options.

I think some of the people here talking about the AI being stupid may not be aware the difficulty ratings have been revamped. Prince is truly medium difficulty now, and Warlord is like playing against a 5 year old who's distracted by cartoons. I can remember in Civ 4 Warlord still had AI that would beat you senseless, that's no longer the case.
Playing it longer i've come across one thing which does bother me quite a bit: What the **** is with all the trading posts? Should have named them villages or something instead so its not quite so stupid looking, but it's still an eyesore to see nothing but those across your entire continent. Seems to be the only way to have a stable economy, which kind of sucks when cities begin starving and you can't spare any space for a farm.

Edited by: Professor Tarantula on 11/10/2010 15:47:21 Just posting to say that as of today i cannot stand this game any longer. Uninstalled it, and doubt i'll ever reinstall it again.
Since there are no solid sim games like the first 4 sim city games anymore, i really wanted to like this, but it appears even the civ series has been gutted now, and is nothing but an ignorant hollow shell of a game with a flashy exterior and subtle propaganda.
I have little hope for any mods fixing it, because anyone intelligent enough to do so wouldn't remain interested long enough, or even want to save Sid's reputation on this one.
